Caius at Panathēnea 2026: Connecting Space Innovation with Rural Development

Panathēnea 2026 took place from 27 to 29 May in Athens, with Zappeion Megaron at the heart of a citywide celebration of technology, entrepreneurship and culture. According to the organisers, the festival brought together more than 10,000 registrations from 60 countries, including 3,000 startup representatives and 1,500 investors! More than 90 side events complemented a programme of talks, workshops, networking activities and a startup pitching competition. The gathering connected founders, researchers, investors and creative professionals, offering a platform for exchanging ideas, exploring emerging technologies and building international partnerships across a wide range of sectors.

Caius attended the festival with particular interest in its startup competition, where AlongWave, and Circuits Integrated Hellas reached the grand final among six finalists. AlongWave applies satellite data and artificial intelligence to marine weather forecasting, while Circuits Integrated Hellas develops semiconductor technologies for satellite communications. For Caius, their achievement highlighted the growing potential of Greece’s space innovation ecosystem. It also offered a reminder of how satellite data and infrastructure can support progress across diverse sectors, from maritime transport and connectivity to agriculture, environmental monitoring and the sustainable development of rural communities.

During Panathēnea 2026, Caius also pursued networking opportunities in support of the CO-FOREST Erasmus+ project, seeking to broaden its network of potential collaborators. Discussions focused on identifying organisations and professionals interested in contributing to interviews, pilot activities and future knowledge exchanges around forestry education, digital innovation and forest resilience. These connections helped us bring additional perspectives and practical experience into the project, strengthening links between research, education and the needs of local communities! Through such collaborations, Caius continues working towards the sustainable development of Greece’s rural areas, connecting technological progress with meaningful opportunities for the people who live and work there.
