Our first journey under the CO-FOREST Erasmus+ project (Creating Opportunities for Resilience, Entrepreneurship, Sustainability, and Training in European Forestry – www.co-forest.site) took us to Estonian Business School in Tallinn, where consortium partners officially launched this ambitious three-year initiative. CO-FOREST addresses critical gaps in contemporary forestry education by developing innovative, inclusive, and challenge-driven training programs. Its core purpose is to equip forestry professionals, students, and stakeholders with practical skills in climate resilience, wildfire prevention, pest and disease management, digital transformation, and sustainable entrepreneurship. Structured around stakeholder co-creation, challenge-based learning, and place-based innovation, the project strengthens fragmented forestry ecosystems while ensuring long-term impact and scalability across Europe!
Within CO-FOREST, Caius contributes its expertise in AI-powered digital mapping, remote sensing, and data-driven rural innovation. We support multiple work packages by integrating advanced forest mapping technologies, wildfire risk assessment tools, and digital ecosystem monitoring into forestry education and training activities. The company leverages satellite and geomorphological data to automate the discovery and mapping of forest roads, hydrographic networks, grazing capacities, and other critical infrastructure, making scientific insights accessible to policymakers, professionals, and rural communities. In parallel, Caius strengthens the project’s innovation dimension by advising entrepreneurs and supporting the long-term sustainability and exploitation of AI-based forestry tools.
The Tallinn kick-off marked the operational starting point of a structured three-year collaboration bringing together higher education institutions, VET providers, forestry enterprises, policymakers, and local communities across Bulgaria, Greece, Estonia, Finland, and Lithuania. As the first official project meeting, it established the roadmap for ecosystem mapping, stakeholder interviews, co-creation workshops, and the development and pilot testing of challenge-driven training content. In the coming months, Caius will actively map the national forestry ecosystem to identify resilience needs, knowledge gaps, and innovation opportunities. We invite local stakeholders — forestry professionals, researchers, public authorities, entrepreneurs, and civil society actors — to connect with Caius and contribute to this national ecosystem mapping effort!
