Athens Hosts a Milestone ECSC with Silver Glory for Greece!

The 18th European Chess Solving Championship (ECSC), held April 25–27, 2025, in the historic Great Hall of the University of Athens, concluded with resounding success. With 77 participants from 18 countries, the event matched its all-time record and showcased the global appeal of chess problem solving — a lesser-known, yet deeply artistic and intellectual dimension of chess. The Greek National Team earned a stunning second place, marking the country’s first-ever team medal at a European chess solving event. Under the auspices of the WFCC and hosted by the Hellenic Chess Federation’s Chess Solving Committee, the event also served as the opening of the new WFCC Fujairah Grand Prix 2025–26, raising international stakes and visibility.

Caius played a central role in the digital infrastructure and communication of the ECSC, powering the championship’s entire online presence. From real-time updates and tournament websites to the publication of results, media coverage, and social content, Caius ensured that chess fans worldwide remained connected and informed. Our CEO, George Mendrinos, actively led the organizational effort for over eight months, not only coordinating with international officials but also aligning local sponsors and vendors for smooth execution. Caius' CFO and Vice Rector of the University of Athens, Professor Stathis Efstathopoulos, played a vital dual role: as president of the Greek Chess Federation and as academic host, he was instrumental in securing the venue and ensuring the event’s seamless execution. Caius remains committed to empowering cultural and intellectual initiatives in Greece through technology and partnership.

We warmly thank all organizing bodies, volunteers, and partners who contributed to this outstanding event. Most of all, we congratulate the Greek National Team for their silver-medal finish — a milestone that justifies our trust and early support. Despite being underdogs, the team proved that with dedication, vision, and the right support small teams with big ideas can achieve extraordinary things. At Caius, this belief is part of our DNA. It’s the same mindset that has shaped our journey throughout the years — and the reason we will keep backing the next big ideas, no matter how small they start.
