Announcements

Our Sincere Thanks!

May 12, 2025

As the organizers, would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of of the 18th ECSC.

We begin with heartfelt thanks to the University of Athens for providing us with such an iconic venue. We also extend our deep appreciation to the WFCC Fujairah Grand Prix, whose support gave a significant boost to Chess Solving. Our collaboration with their representatives, Dr. Abdulla Ali Aal Barket and Mohammad Alhallak, was truly excellent.

Our gratitude also goes to Marjan Kovačević, Harry Fougiaxis, and Julia Vysotska for their invaluable support throughout the event.

A special thanks to our directors, Axel Steinbrink and Borislav Gadjanski. Axel’s impeccable work and outstanding character are well known to all of us. He has been a consistent supporter of Greek organizers — and of us personally — many times over the years. We are fortunate to have someone like him in our field.

As for Bora, this was his first time serving as Director at a European Championship, and he proved to be an excellent choice. His contribution is especially important as it helps expand the currently limited pool of reliable directors for major events.

Many Greek contributors supported us in various ways, and we would like to briefly acknowledge them:

Stathis Efstathopoulos, Dimitris Skyrianoglou, Panagiotis Konidaris, Nikos Dirlis, Katerina Kyriakou, Dimitra Tsiaousi, Kostas Prentos, Dimitris Liakos, Manolis Manolas, Vangelis Petridis, Nikos Pirenis, Despoina Mendrinou, Nektarios Mendrinos, Maria Efstathopoulou, and Elena Foumaki.

Finally, we sincerely apologize for any mistakes or oversights that may have occurred on our part as organizers.

With warm thanks,

Nikos & George Mendrinos

You only need to indicate white first move for #2 and s#2, although both black and white first moves for h#2 are required

Three clarifications

March 19, 2025

a) Solvers from outside Europe are also eligible to participate in the event. They will be presented as unofficial ECSC participants, and can compete for the Grand Prix monetary prizes and Grand Prix Points, but as stated in the WFCC rules:

"Solvers outside of the ECU are not considered for the team competition and also not for the individual European championship results, only for the overall individual results."

b) While participation in the Open tournament is open to everyone, the WFCC rules impose restrictions on the number of solvers per country in the ECSC. We encourage you to check the detailed WFCC rules and coordinate with your national delegates for further clarification.

c) Participants belonging to special categories (Women, Seniors, U23, U18, U14) who are not listed in the Solvers' Rating List are kindly requested to send a photo of their passport or ID to the official tournament email!
